The Chinese Language Center at Tajen University, under the International Foundation Program, was established to promote the internationalization of Chinese language education. By integrating academic expertise with Pingtung’s local culture, the Center provides overseas students with comprehensive, diverse, and high-quality language learning resources. Guided by the core value of “In Tajen, We Are One Family,” the Center emphasizes professional instruction, cultural exchange, and international engagement, aiming to cultivate global talents with both linguistic proficiency and intercultural competence.

The curriculum is designed to cover beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels of Chinese, following the TOCFL standards to ensure accurate placement and effective learning. In addition to general language training, the Center actively develops “Professional Chinese” courses—such as Chinese for Electrical and Plumbing Technology, Tourism Chinese, Hospitality Chinese, and Business Chinese—to help students apply language skills in real-world contexts and enhance their professional competitiveness.

In terms of cultural experience, the Center leverages Pingtung’s rich multicultural and local resources to design immersive programs, including indigenous cultural exploration, agricultural visits, local festivals, and culinary experiences. These activities enable students to learn Chinese through daily life and quickly adapt to living in Taiwan. The buddy program and intercultural exchange activities further foster a friendly campus environment and deepen students’ understanding of Taiwan’s diverse culture.

In its development blueprint, the Center’s short-term focus is on successfully implementing the Ministry of Education’s New Southbound International Programs and innovative special programs, while enhancing the curriculum system and teacher training. It also aims to establish a multilingual website and digital marketing platform to increase brand visibility. In the mid-term, the Center will focus on strengthening the existing “1+4 International Foundation Program,” promoting interdisciplinary “Professional Chinese” courses, developing an online teaching platform, and deepening cooperation with the Chinese Language Center of National Pingtung University through joint teacher training, resource sharing, cultural promotion, and academic exchange—creating a Southern Taiwan Chinese Language Education Alliance.

The long-term vision is to become the most representative Chinese language education hub in southern Taiwan, exporting Taiwan’s Chinese teaching model and establishing in-depth partnerships with internationally renowned universities and overseas Chinese language centers, thereby building the globally recognized and sustainable “Tajen Chinese” brand.

Looking ahead, the Chinese Language Center will continue to position itself with a dual focus on Professional Chinese + Cultural Experience, and through close collaboration with partners such as National Pingtung University, it will uphold its educational mission, promote local culture, and strengthen international exchange—becoming the most trusted Chinese language learning base for overseas students in southern Taiwan.
